I LOVE stupid criminals	[Aug. 3rd, 2009\|12:43 pm]
Recently, some friends of my parents had their garage broken into and a bunch of stuff stolen. Somehow, during the robbery, the perp dropped his wallet in the garage. Also, in his drunken stupor, he tried to enlist the help of the neighbor kids to help him lug all this stuff up the hill to his truck. When they refused, the genius decided is wasn't worth the effort to manhaul all his stolen goods to his van, so he left the bulk of it on the neighbor's lawn. My parents' friends now have all their stuff back and the mastermind is sitting in county lock-up.

Well, I figured I'd update this since it's been a while. I'm no longer taking classes, since it turned out they didn't apply to certification. Our landlord is selling the house we were renting, so we had to move into this tiny little apartment since nothing bigger or better is available until school gets out and a couple teachers leave. We're about 80% sure we'll be getting into a sweet little duplex up on the hill with a great view of the town and the ocean and islands. Winter is still trying to hang on as long as it can. We got a couple inches of snow just the other day, but thankfully, it all melted. It needs to warm up. Hopefully, this summer won't be like last summer, which was totally crappy. It looks like I'll be tutoring afterschool for the next couple months.

Back to School

Well, in a pursuit to spend more time at home with the family, instead of being in the woods for 3 months straight, I'm heading back to school to gain my teaching credentials. If I do so successfully, and can gain employment, I will be happy to have summers off and be able to be home at night and weekends when my family needs me.

First class starts Monday, and although it's not a teaching methods class, it will be applicable to my overall certification and knowledge base. It's an online course utilizing Elluminate, which looks pretty sweet in its implementation. I'm looking forward to it, although it will eat up all our bandwidth at home.

Well, it's not the Christmas we wanted

So, the plan was to fly to Michigan for Christmas break. It was a nice plan, but like many plans, things didn't go so well. We left Ketchikan on the afternoon of the 20th and flew into Seattle. On the morning of the 21st, Seattle got hit with a winter "storm" and all the flights got canceled. So, after waiting in line for 9 hours (no exaggeration) we could either leave for Chicago and then Green Bay on the 27th or fly back to Alaska on the 24th. We chose to fly back to Alaska. Looking at the weather systems rolling through, it was the only choice. If we had gone to Michigan, we would only have had 6 days left to visit both families in the U.P. and the L.P. So, we hung out at the Double Tree in Seatac and then had to hit up a hotel in Ketchikan for 2 days since the ferry wasn't running during the holiday. We were able to go to our friends' house for Christmas dinner, which was good. But, we'd still rather be back in Michigan with our families.
